How to Download Your Amazon Order History in Australia
Amazon keeps a complete record of everything you have ever ordered, and you can request a copy of it in about two minutes. Amazon then emails you a file, usually within a day. Here is the whole process, with a video of it from start to finish.
Why bother
Your bank statement says AMAZON MARKETPLACE AU SYDNEY and a dollar amount. That tells you nothing about what you actually bought. The order history file holds the item names, the dates and the amounts, so a charge on a statement can be traced back to a real purchase. Step by step
- Open the Amazon data request page. Go to Request Your Data on amazon.com.au and sign in if asked. This is an official Amazon page, part of their privacy centre.
- Find Your Orders and press Submit Request. You will see a list of data categories. The one you want is called Your Orders. It covers product names, dates, prices paid and returns.
- Click the confirmation link in your email. Amazon sends a confirmation email straight away, and the request does not start until you click the link inside it. This is the step most people miss. No click, no data.
- Wait for the download email. Amazon prepares the file and emails you a download link. In our experience it lands within a few hours to a day, though Amazon says it can take longer.
- Download the ZIP. The link expires after a while, so grab it when it arrives. The file is a ZIP with several folders inside. If you are loading it into Recpt there is no need to unzip anything, just drop the whole file in on the Import page.
What is in the file
The useful part is a spreadsheet called Order History, which lists every item with its name, order date, price and order number. The ZIP also contains things you probably do not need, like delivery photos taken by couriers and copies of old invoices. Worth knowing: the file includes your delivery addresses and billing details, so treat it like any document with personal information in it.
When you load the file into Recpt, we read only the order dates, item names and amounts. Delivery addresses and billing details are ignored and never stored, and the file itself is read in memory and discarded.
If the email never arrives
- Check you clicked the confirmation link. The request sits idle until you do.
- Check spam. Both the confirmation and the download email sometimes land there.
- Give it a day. Amazon states it can take up to a month, but in practice it is far faster, often within hours.
