Terms of service.

Last updated: May 2026

These terms govern your use of Recpt. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

1. What Recpt is

Recpt is an AI-assisted record-keeping tool that suggests organisational categories for receipt images you upload. The suggested categories are organisational labels, not statements of deductibility under Australian tax law. Recpt does not lodge tax returns, does not calculate refunds, and does not provide tax advice.

2. Not a tax agent

Recpt is not registered with the Tax Practitioners Board and does not provide tax agent services as defined under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (Cth). All AI suggestions are non-binding starting points for your own decision-making. You are responsible for reviewing, verifying, and confirming every classification before claiming any deduction. We strongly recommend you consult a registered tax agent or BAS agent. The TPB public register is at tpb.gov.au/public-register.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a contract to use Recpt. By using the service you confirm you meet these requirements.

4. Your account

You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials and any device passkeys secure, and for activity on your account. Tell us as soon as possible if you suspect unauthorised access. If you lose all passkeys and your encryption recovery code, your encrypted receipt images cannot be recovered by anyone. See our Security page.

5. Your responsibilities

Recpt is not a substitute for your record-keeping obligations. Storing receipts in Recpt is a convenience. It does not transfer your ATO record-keeping duty to us. You must keep your own records (or be able to retrieve them from Recpt) for the periods required by Australian tax law, including after you cancel a paid plan or delete your account.

6. Your content and our licence to use it

You retain ownership of the receipt images, statements, and other content you upload ("Your Content"). You grant Recpt a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, process, transmit, display, and create derivatives (such as thumbnails and OCR output) of Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We do not sell Your Content, and we do not use it to train any AI model. Our AI model provider's commercial API terms also commit them not to train models on the content we send them. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we are required to retain it by law.

7. AI accuracy: no warranty

AI classification is best-effort. It can be wrong, miss details, hallucinate values, or mislabel transactions. We provide it on an "as is" basis without warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any tax or accounting purpose. You must verify every result before relying on it.

8. Subscriptions, pricing, and renewal

What a "scan" means. A scan is one AI processing of a single uploaded receipt image. References to "receipts per month" or "receipts per year" in our marketing material mean scans under these terms. Failed scans (where our system can't extract any data) do not count against your quota. A "statement transaction" is one transaction row read by our AI from a bank or card statement you import; rows are counted when scanned, whether or not you save them, and failed imports are refunded.

Pro plan: your monthly quota resets on the same date each month as the day you started or last changed your paid plan (your billing anniversary). Unused scans do not roll over. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from your account settings; quota and price change at the start of your next billing period.

Annual Pass: a one-off, non-recurring purchase tied to the current Australian financial year at the time of purchase. We do not auto-renew or charge again. Buy the next year's pass any time after 1 July of that year.

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where applicable. Payments are processed by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's terms.

Pro renews automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. When you cancel, access continues until the end of the current paid period; we do not pro-rata refund the unused portion of that period. The Annual Pass does not renew. Once it expires (by date or by reaching the 2000 scan cap) you must purchase another to continue scanning, or switch to Pro.

Refunds. We don't offer refunds for change of mind. If we believe a refund is warranted because of a fault on our side, we'll consider it on request. Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (section 16).

9. Fair use

Recpt is for normal personal use: scanning your own receipts for your own tax records. The following are not fair use, regardless of which plan you are on:

Paid plans do not have daily usage limits within the monthly quota. We may apply temporary rate limits without prior notice if patterns suggest abuse, and we may contact you to clarify usage before taking further action.

10. Suspension and termination by us

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, including the fair-use clause. Except where we reasonably believe immediate action is needed (for example: ongoing abuse, security risk, fraud, or a legal requirement), we will give you at least 7 days' notice describing the issue and a chance to fix it or respond.

You can appeal a suspension or termination by emailing help@recpt.com.au. If we terminate without justification, we will pro-rata refund the unused portion of any current paid period.

11. Termination by you

You can delete your account at any time from your profile in the web app. Deletion is permanent and removes your data within 7 days, except where we are required by law to retain specific records. Cancelling a paid plan does not delete your account. Your data remains accessible on the free tier until you delete it.

12. Service availability and force majeure

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Recpt depends on third-party services (our AI model provider, Stripe, payment networks, internet infrastructure) which may experience outages. We are not liable for downtime, delays, or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including natural disasters, pandemics, internet or upstream-provider outages, acts of government, or denial-of-service attacks.

If the service is unavailable for an extended or continuous period, whether for maintenance, a fault, or circumstances affecting our ability to operate it (including the incapacity or unavailability of key personnel), we may suspend the service. Where a paid subscription is materially affected by an extended suspension, we will, at our choice, either extend your subscription by the period affected or refund the unused portion on a pro-rata basis. Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (section 16).

13. Third-party services

Payments are handled by Stripe under their consumer terms. Receipt OCR and categorisation use a third-party AI model provider as disclosed on our Privacy and Security pages. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of these third parties, but we choose them carefully and disclose the relationship.

14. Disclosure to regulators

We may access, retain, and disclose your information when we reasonably believe it is required to comply with a law, court order, subpoena, or lawful request from an Australian regulator (such as the ATO, ACCC, OAIC, AUSTRAC, or a law-enforcement agency), to protect the rights or safety of Recpt or others, or to investigate suspected fraud or breach of these terms.

15. Privacy

Our handling of your personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The Security page explains what we encrypt and what we don't.

16. Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy that you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws which cannot be lawfully excluded or modified. Where our liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our liability is limited (at our choice) to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having the service resupplied.

17. Limitation of liability

Subject to section 16, to the maximum extent permitted by Australian law:

18. Your indemnity

You indemnify Recpt and its officers, employees, and contractors against all losses, costs (including reasonable legal costs), damages, and liabilities arising from: (a) content you upload that infringes any third party's rights or is unlawful; (b) your use of the service in breach of these terms; or (c) your negligent or wilful misuse of the service.

19. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. For material changes, we will give you at least 14 days' notice by email or in-app message before the changes take effect. If you don't agree to a material change, you can cancel your subscription before it takes effect and we will refund the unused portion of your current paid period. For non-material changes (clarifications, typos, formatting), we will update the "Last updated" date above.

20. Dispute resolution

Before starting any court proceeding, you agree to first contact us at help@recpt.com.au with a written description of the dispute and what outcome you're seeking. We will respond within 14 days and attempt to resolve the matter in good faith. This step does not prevent either party from seeking urgent interim relief. Nothing in this clause limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or your ability to lodge a complaint with a relevant regulator.

21. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Victoria, Australia. You and Recpt each submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria and the courts of appeal from them.

22. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, that provision is severed to the minimum extent needed and the remainder of these terms continues in full force.

23. Entire agreement

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any plan-specific terms shown at sign-up, are the entire agreement between you and Recpt about the service, and supersede any prior discussions or representations.

24. Survival

Sections 2 (Not a tax agent), 6 (Content licence, for content we are lawfully required to retain), 14 (Disclosure to regulators), 16 (Australian Consumer Law), 17 (Limitation of liability), 18 (Your indemnity), 20 (Dispute resolution), 21 (Governing law), and any other clause that by its nature should survive, survive termination of these terms.
