Categories

Recpt uses two short, fixed category lists. There is no custom chart of accounts, and that is on purpose: a short list is faster on site and matches what your accountant needs.
Individuals
The categories follow the ATO's individual return labels:
- D1 Work-related car expenses
- D2 Work-related travel expenses
- D3 Work-related clothing and laundry
- D4 Work-related self-education
- D5 Other work-related expenses
- D9 Gifts and donations
- D10 Cost of managing tax affairs
- Property expenses
Each has sub-categories, for example D1 splits into fuel, rego, repairs, lease, tolls and other.
Small business and sole traders
Business expenses use plain labels that map to the business schedule:
- B1 Materials and supplies
- B2 Subcontractors
- B3 Tools and equipment
- B4 Motor vehicle
- B5 Phone and internet
- B6 Insurance
- B7 Rent and site costs
- B8 Other business expenses
An expense linked to a job always takes a business category.
A category is a filing label, not a decision about what is allowed. Verify before claiming, and talk to a registered tax agent.
